ICAR sponsored three weeks advanced faculty training program on “Current Knowledge and Future Challenges in Domestic Animal Theriogenology” started in Department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics, GADVASU, Ludhiana. The advanced training program is being conducted to update the scientific knowledge and imparting hands on training in the field of animal reproduction to scientists of state veterinary universities, agricultural universities and central research institutes. Twenty three scientists from 10 states (Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat , Kerala, Orissa, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, J&K and Punjab) have been participating in this program. This advance training program is aimed at augmenting the fertility and productivity of livestock and pets to ultimately maximize the financial profits of farmers.
In the inaugural function Dr SK Uppal, Dean Post graduate studies, GADVASU, was the chief guest and Dr P S Brar, Dean, College of Veterinary Science was the guest of honour. While addressing the gathering, Dr Uppal emphasized that reproduction is a complicated process which requires maintenance of normal physiological indices of an animal. Any deviation in the physiological status might lead to disease conditions and ultimately impaired reproduction. He also told that the scientists working in the field of reproduction must have adequate knowledge of physiology, pathology, disease control, nutrition and management for optimizing the financial profitability. Dr Prahlad Singh, Director, Centre of Advanced Faculty Training expressed his satisfaction towards the achievements of the department over the years and thanked all the participants for showing their interest in the ongoing program. He informed that the advanced training program is focussed on imparting hands on training to update the participants about the latest advancements in diagnosis and treatment of male and female infertility in domestic animals.He told that deliberations among the scientists to curb infertility problems in dairy animals will be helpful in developing roadmap for enhancing profitability in dairy sector. Dr. Ajeet Kumar, Associate Professor and Dr SS Dhindsa, Assistant Scientist are the course coordinators of the program.
