KVK Mohali Organises Vocational Training on Scientific Fish Farming

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, S.A.S. Nagar (Mohali) organized one week vocational training on ‘Scientific Fish Farming’ under ICAR-15 scheme at village Rattangarh Simbal. Seventeen farmers belonging to this village participated in the week long training programme. Training coordinator Dr. Vikas Phulia, Assistant Professor (Fisheries) described the utility of this training programme. Dr. Phulia delivered detailed lectures covering various aspects of fish farming viz. site selection and pond construction, pre-stocking, stocking and post-stocking management, water quality management, feeding management and health management practices. He also encouraged farmers for diversification in fish farming and to adopt Pangas fish farming for doubling income. Invited fisheries expert from KVK Barnala, Khushvir Singh, Assistant Professor elaborated ornamental fish breeding techniques and farming. He motivated farmers/youth to adopt ornamental fish farming for employment generation as it is a low investment venture. Rajinder Kumar, expert from corporate sector stressed upon pellet feeding in fish farming.

In order to provide practical exposure, a visit was organised to two fish farms located at village Sekhan Majra and Tangori of the district. Farmers were apprised about carp seed production in circular carp hatchery and Pangas farming at these farms. Progressive fish farmer Mr. Raj Kapoor shared his experience with the trainees. They were also showed integrated poultry cum fish farming model developed at Sekhan Majra fish farm developed under the technical guidance of KVK Mohali.

Dr. Yashwant Singh, Deputy Director, KVK Mohali stressed upon integration of different animal husbandry systems with fish farming in order to enhance farm income. He also informed that KVK Mohali provides trainings on various livestock farming practices like Dairy, Piggery, Goat farming and processing and value addition under the guidance of Dr. H K Verma, Director Extension Education GADVASU. In the feedback, farmers were delighted to undergo this training and appreciated the efforts taken by KVK for the welfare of farmers of the district.
