Farmer-Scientist interface on crop residue management at KVK

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh, Tarn Taran of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organised a Farmer-Scientist interface on crop residue management under a project on "Promotion of Agricultural Mechanization and Machinery for In- situ Management of Crop Residue" at adopted village Jouneke.  About 300 farmers were participated in this programme.  Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director (Training) of KVK welcomed all the officers and farmers and stressed on the importance of In-situ paddy straw management among the farmers and advised that we all should make efforts so that no farmer in the Punjab state should burn the paddy straw as it causes adverse effect on soil health and future generations. Dr. Harinderjeet Singh (Chief Agriculture Officer) Tarn Taran informed that Central Government has announced a subsidy scheme on farm machinery & implements and farmers can avail this subsidy scheme. Dr. Parminder Kaur, DES (SM) (FASS) Tarn Taran, explained in detail about Pest and disease management in paddy and wheat crop. Dr Kuljit Singh Saini (Block Agriculture Officer) Chohla Sahib discussed about the various schemes of department of agriculture Punjab. Dr Navjot Singh Brar informed that weed problem is minimized in happy seeder sown wheat crop and also explained about various implements like Happy Seeder, MB plough, Mulcher, which can be used to manage paddy straw properly. Dr. Anil Kumar briefed that many Micro-nutrients and organic matter lost by paddy straw burning. Specially invitee Dr. Hardyal Singh Retired Deputy Director Horticulture and Progressive farmer Sher Singh Kot Budha shared their experiences with the farmers. Live demonstration of machinery was displayed in the event and literature related to residue burning was also distributed to the farmers.  All the farmers assured that they will disseminate message of KVK for not to burn paddy straw to every farmer of district Tarn Taran and will put their whole effort for residue management. They appreciated the effort of KVK for organising such programme.
