Krishi Vigyan Kendra, GADVASU, Booh, Tarn Taran organized a vocational training programme on ‘Scientific Fish Farming’ at its Campus. Twenty
Eight farmers belonging to different villages of District Tarn Taran has been participated in the training course. This Vocational training programme was conducted under ICAR-14 schemes. Scientific knowledge was shared on various aspects of fish farming including pond preparation, pre stocking and post stocking management, water quality management, fish feed formulations including farm made feeds and health management for skill development and self entrepreneurship of farmers for economic development.
Dr. Anil Kumar, Asst. Prof (Soil Science), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, stressed upon the development of skill of the rural population of the Tarn Taran. Fish Farming training helps farmers and rural youth in developing the agricultural entrepreneurship through livestock diversification. He also highlighted various facilities developed and provided by GADVASU and KVK.
Course Coordinators Dr Bhanu Prakash. Ch and Dr Anil Kumar highlighted the lectures from different aspects of fish farming. The topics covered in the training course by course coordinators were construction of fish pond, different fish species suitable for culture, fish feeding and harvesting, problems and solutions in fish farming along with integration farming systems, etc.
Lectures and demonstrations regarding Azolla cultivation, vermicompost preparation and integrated fish farming with different livestock farming and agriculture were conducted.
Exposure visit was conducted for more practical knowledge at village Marhi kamboke fish farmer Balwant singh who is practicing fish farming from past 30 years. Participants were delighted to meet experienced fish farmer.
