All out efforts of Vet-Varsity for capacity building of Field Vets and Farmers

Directorate of Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana in collaboration with National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad is organizing a National training program on “Breakthrough Technologies for Productivity Enhancement in Livestock Sector” from 21.07.2018 to 28.07.2018 for Veterinary Officers/ Field functionaries. Dr. H.K. Verma, Director Extension Education told that this is the first National level training program organized by the Vet-Varsity in collaboration with MANAGE. A total of 31 Veterinarians/ Field functionaries working in the Department of Animal Husbandry Punjab, UP, HP & MP, KVKs and Milkfed are participating in this training program in which all the technologies developed by GADVAU are being shared with participants.

 Presently, two more training programs namely short term training on “Ultrasound” in the Departments of Veterinary Surgery, Veterinary Gynaecology and Veterinary Medicine for Field Veterinary Doctors, Punjab Govt. and “Specialized Pig Farming” for farmers, farm women & rural youth and are ongoing from 23.07.2018 to 27.07.2018. Ultrasound techniques are becoming increasingly important in Veterinary Science because it’s a mean of diagnosis and a useful therapeutic tool as well. The objectives of the training program are to provide enough knowledge and practical information to the participants so that they can perform Ultrasonography in common clinical situations in large as well as in small animals for providing pin point diagnosis to the farmers for rationale treatment.

42 vibrant farmers from Punjab and nearby states are being trained on “Specialized Pig Farming”. GADVASU is continuously working in the direction of improvement of socio-economic status of the livestock owners through organizing various training programme for providing scientific knowledge for skill development of the farmers. As pig farming is day by day gaining impetus in the state and it can be a good source of earning and University is getting overwhelming response for training in Pig rearing.

Dr. Verma informed that GADVASU is regularly organizing capacity building program on Dairy, Poultry, Piggery, Fisheries, Value Addition of Milk, Meat & Egg as scheduled courses as per training calendar. Tailor-made courses are also conducted as per request and University is getting requests for organizing trainings/workshops/seminars not only to the farmers but to field Vets from other states of India. Dr. A.S. Nanda, Vice-Chancellor appreciated the efforts of team of the Directorate for getting this National and state level sponsored training programs. Further, he said that such type of trainings will be highly useful for the Veterinarians/officers/field functionaries involved in clinical services and transfer of livestock technologies at field level.
