On the festival of Eid-ul-Fitr an Eid Milan celebration was organised by Directorate of Student's Welfare at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana. Dr A S Nanda, Vice-Chancellor of University was chief guest on the occasion. Muslim students from India and abroad who are studying in university campus were invited alongwith students from PAU. Dr. S S Hassan, Assistant Professor, described about the importance of Eid-ul-Fitr. He said that the month of Ramzan is a sacred month in Islam. In this month Muslims remain on daily fast from morning till evening. The purpose of this ritual is to understand the pain of those poor's who have no food to eat. He also told the importance of charity (Zakat) in Islam, that if your neighbour is hungry you have no right to enjoy the food.
Dr. A S Nanda congratulated all on this festival and said that Eid gives us message of international brotherhood. He said that we will make it a permanent feature because Muslim students who are studying here are sitting far away from their homeland and as the second home, its duty of institute to provide them warmth and feel of home. He said that we should develop an inter-religion faith of different communities. He also suggested that we should celebrate our religious festivals by involving all the communities and religions.
Dr. Satyavan Rampal, Director Student's Welfare revealed that it was brain child of Vice-Chancellor to celebrate the festival in this novel way to develop a message of brotherhood and togetherness. Mrs. Kanwaljeet Kaur Nanda, wife of Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Sucheta Sharma, Wife of DSW, Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, Dean College of Veterinary Science, Dr. JPS Gill, Director Research and Dr. S K Uppal, Dean Post Graduate Studies also graced the occasion. Dr. Manjinder Sharma, Warden of Girls' Hostel coordinated the whole event in a meticulous manner.
