Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Booh, operational under Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana was awarded at National level under Swachh Bharat Mission by Union Cabinet Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Sh. Radha Mohan Singh on 8th March at Annual Conference of Vice Chancellors of Agricultural Universities and Directors of ICAR Institutes at New Delhi. Out of 680 KVKs operational in India. KVK Tarn Taran got 3rd prize in "Swachhta Award" while KVK Datia (Madhya Pradesh) and KVK Bargarh (Odisha) got first two positions. Sh. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Govt. of India, New Delhi; Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra, Secretary (DARE) and Director General, ICAR, New Delhi; Prof. Dr. Ramesh Chand, Member, NITI Aayog; Shri JP Meena, Secretary, MoFP Industries, Govt. of India; Sh. Chhabilendra Roul, Special Secretary (DARE) & Secretary ICAR, New Delhi; Dr. Panjab Singh, President NAAS, Dr. AK Srivastva, Chairman ASRB, New Delhi and Dr. NS Rathore, DDG, Agricultural Education Division, ICAR were also present on the occasion. Parameters considered for Swachhta mission involved e-office, ambience and cleanliness at important places and villages in the district, cleanliness drive at schools, vermi-compost preparation for proper waste management, maintenance of hygienic conditions, crop residue management for better living environment, weed free area and preparation of carry bags from waste cloth. Farmers, farm women and rural youth related with KVK, Booh from different villages of district Tarn Taran had participated in these programmes. Dr. HK Verma, Director Extension Education, GADVASU, Ludhiana, Dr Rajbir Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI Zone-1, PAU, Ludhiana and Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director (Training), KVK Tarn Taran received the award from the Agricultural Minister, GOI. Dr. H. K. Verma, Director of Extension Education, GADVASU said that KVK, Booh, Tarn Taran was started 4 years back and is doing great job in the border District of Punjab and folks of area are very happy. Dr. Amarjit Singh Nanda, Vice Chancellor, GADVASU congratulated the Directorate of Extension and faculty, staff of KVK Tarn Taran for getting this national award. Further, he said that keep focused and try to help the farmers, unemployed youth and women farmers in all aspects and focus on doubling of farmers' income.
