KVK, Mohali celebrates World Soil Day

World Soil Day was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, SAS Nagar (Mohali) in collaboration with Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, SAS Nagar Punjab on 5th December, 2017 at Block Agriculture Office, Kharar. Dr. Parminder Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer SAS Nagar graced the occasion as Chief Guest. About 250 farmers from district S.A.S. Nagar attended the programme. On this occasion, a film on soil health comprising message of Prime Minister was also screened to sensitize and inspire the farmers. Soil Health Cards and related literature was also distributed among the farmers. In this function, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, SAS Nagar (Mohali) displayed their technical exhibition for the benefit of farmers.

In inaugural address, the Chief Guest stressed upon the scheme of Soil Health Card and its benefits for the farmersDr. Yashwant Singh, Deputy Director, KVK SAS Nagar emphasized on deficiency of different mineral elements in soil and its remedial measures. He further emphasized on use of area specific mineral mixture to prevent different metabolic diseases in dairy animals. He also gave detailed information on balanced feeding of dairy animals.

In Technical session, Dr. Priyanka Suryavanshi discussed about different management practices for soil and water conservation especially integrated nutrient management and micro irrigation techniques. Dr. Munish Sharma discussed about soil sampling methods for orchards. Dr. Harmeet Kaur briefed about soil sampling techniques and caliberation of soil health cards. Gurpreet Singh Sidhu, ADO Kharar, motivated the farmers for judicious and balanced use of fertilizers. Dr. Pradeep Sharma AO, Kharar, suggested farmers to reduce the doses of chemical fertilizers gradually and move towards organic farming. Jatinder Singh Gill apprised about soil and water testing for construction of Fish Pond. Jagdeep Singh, BTM, gave a detailed lecture on use of fertilizers for different rabi season crops.

A feedback was also taken from the farmers. One of the organic farmer, Gurprakash Singh from village Janjheri, shared his experiences regarding organic farming practices and marketing of produce.

A vote of thanks was proposed by Jagdeep Singh. Farmers were of the opinion that they have gained a lot of knowledge from the programme.
