Governor Punjab honors five progressive livestock farmers in 21st Pashu Palan Mela at GADVASU

Five progressive livestock farmers associated with Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana were honoured by Sh. VP Singh Badnore, Governor Punjab, Jathedar S. Tota Singh, Agriculture Minister of Punjab, Vice-Chancellors of PAU, Dr. BS Dhillon, Dr AS Nanda, Vice Chancellor of GADVASU and other dignitaries at mela ground of PAU. These farmers were recipient of Chief Minister’s Award in the previous years.

Sh. Jasvir Singh S/O S.Jodh Singh, Vill. Karodia, Distt. Ludhiana was awarded in fish farming category. He started fish farming since 18 years back with 3 acres land. Now he is working on 9 acres area with 25 quintal per acre production annualy. He is doing fish farming in a scientific manner. He used fish pond water for irrigation of land. After getting training from Vet Varsity he is also working on value added products.

In Poultry category, Sh. Mohit Raja S/O Sh. Rajinder Kumar of Bathonia village Distt. Patiala was awarded. He started Poultry farming in year 2009 with 40,000 birds. His farm is fully automated. Very clean and hygienic environment of the farm gives a state of art look. He produced quality feed from his own feed mill.

In the cattle category Sh.Jagdeep Singh S/O S. Natha Singh VPO Aasal Distt. Ferozepur was awarded. He started dairy farming in year 2001 with single buffalo now he has more than 250 animals. He had established a milking parlour, ultra modern shed and bulk milk chiller. While adopting eco-friendly measures he is producing Bio Gas from his farm waste.

In buffalo category Sh.Harminder Singh Sandhu S/O S. Malkit Singh Vill. Sahnewal, Distt. Ludhiana was honored. He started his dairy farm in 1989 with 10 buffalos now he has about 100 animals.. To develop eco-friendly environment he started his own biogas plant and used the slurry in his fields. He has adopted a number of advance technologies and interventions in his farm.

In the cattle category Sh.Jatinder Singh S/O S.Tej Singh VPO Channuwal, Block Bagha Purana, Distt.Moga was awarded. He started dairy farming in year 1985 with 20 cows now he has more than 100 animals. He had established a milking parlour, all his cattle’s have different names and they recognized their name on master’s call.

Dr. Amarjit Singh Nanda said that these awards helped in motivating farmers to learn and adopt the latest technologies and practices of animal farming and the awardees will also serve as role models for other farmers who want to adopt animal farming.
