Dr. Ajeet Kumar in the Department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana attended 18th International Congress on Animal Reproduction held at Tours, France. He had an oral presentation on “Fertility associated metabolites in bull seminal plasma and blood serum: 1H Nuclear Magnetic Resonance study”. Dr. Kumar has also been awarded DBT-CTEP travel grant to attend this congress. This Travel grant is awarded to scientists from a pool of highly competitive candidates by Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Govt. of India for presenting cutting edge research in various areas of Life Sciences, Medical Sciences and Engineering.
The present work on metabolomic approach of fertility prediction is a promising way to identify high fertility cross bred bulls. Presently, there are no reliable methods available, which can predict bull fertility with great accuracy. Preliminary results indicate that metabolites in serum and seminal plasma of crossbred bulls vary with fertility. This information can also be used for the identification of high fertility pure-bred and buffalo bulls. The presentation at International Congress on Animal Reproduction (ICAR) held at France was well appreciated by the scientific community and was a unique opportunity to interact with researchers working in this area. Dr Kumar said that addressing the issues pertaining to bull fertility will impart a good impact on dairy sector and strengthening the rural economy of India.
