Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, College of Veterinary Sciences, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana, organized an animal welfare camp at village Gurusar Konke(Jagraon) The Gurusar Konke Village is the adopted village of Department of Animal Breeding and Genetics GADVASU, under Progeny testing scheme run by the department. A team of experts from Department of Veterinary and AH Extension Education diagnosed and treated 206 cases of Buffaloes, Cows, Bullocks, Dogs, Sheep and Goats. Dr. V K Taneja, Vice Chancellor, GADVASU, has inaugurated this camp. Dr. Taneja said that the follow up of the cases registered and treated during the camp should be done to asses the impact of treatment or some other remedial measure thereof at later stage. Further, Dr. V K Taneja, Vice Chancellor revealed that such more animal welfare camps are held regularly for the welfare of animals and the rural people to give boost for adopting dairying as viable alternative to customized agriculture and to disseminate the technologies. Majority of the cases were of Gynaecology cases (98 cases) including anoestrus, repeat breeding, prolapse, metritis, abortion and pregnancy checkup. Medicine (93 cases) cases were with problems of mastitis, diarrhea, fever, tick infestation, worm infestation, general debility and bloat. Surgical cases (15 cases ) were of String halt, wound, abscess, otitis, teeth problems and lameness. Surgical operations were also done in the camp. Three demonstrations namely checking of milk sample for mastitis, correct application of anti-tick bath and method of deworming were also demonstrated to the farmers. Majority of the animals were weak due to worm infestation, mineral deficiencies and lack of fodder & balanced feed. The mineral mixture was provided to livestock Owners.
