The Board of Management of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana which met today at Chandigarh decided to grant second term for a period of four years to Dr. V. K. Taneja, Vice-Chancellor who is completing his first term on 19.12.2010. Dr. Taneja during his tenure made significant contributions in terms of research, academics and transfer of technology. In addition to the establishment of new Colleges of Fisheries and College of Dairy Science & Technology, a School of Animal Biotechnology was established which is a Centre for higher learning and recognized by the Department of Biotechnology, Govt. of India as a National Centre for training and education. The Department of Biotechnology has given sufficient grants for postgraduate teaching in the area of Animal Biotechnology. The other major contribution has been developing - Farmers’ Hostel, Scientists’ Home and Girls Hostel and strengthening teaching and research facilities specially the Veterinary Clinics with sophisticated equipments which are greatly helpful in early and precise diagnosis.
It is hoped that Dr. Taneja’s continuation would provide effective leadership to the University to ensure that GADVASU becomes a number one institution in research, training and extension in Veterinary & Animal Sciences in the country and shall address problems of the farmers’ community with focus on increasing their income through use of improved and new technologies.
Dr. Taneja is of the firm opinion that farmers can earn more money through management of livestock in scientific manner and delivery of services and inputs to the farmers at their door-steps. A widely travelled Dr. Taneja has vast management experience both at national and international level and that farmers of Punjab would benefit from his continue as head of GADVASU.
