Dairy farming training course of fifteen days durartion for the farmers of Punjab and neighboring states was concluded at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana. Dr. H.K. Verma, Course Director, Prof. cum- Head, Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, in his concluding lecture interacted with the farmers and dealt with their queries. He further revealed that after this basic training one can go for commercial level training organized by university itself or can have a hand on training on other aspect like AI training programme organized by Dairy Development Department and Animal Husbandry Department of Punjab. A total of 46 farmers from Punjab, Haryana and neighboring states including three women farmers enrolled themselves for the current training. Dr. Kulbir Singh Sandhu, Director Extension Education, GADVASU, Ludhiana told that university is organizing such training on regular basis viz dairy farming, poultry farming, piggery farming and many other tailor made courses as per demand .
Dr. R. S. Sahota, course coordinator of the training gave a word of advice to all the outgoing farmers and discussed in detail the importance and future of dairy farming. He further revealed that utmost care was taken to chose the topic for this training so that farmers can get a broader view of dairy farming like breeds, feed and feeding, management, conservation of fodder, diseases and their control, value addition etc. During the training a special lecture was arranged on role of banking in livestock sector by DDM NABARD Mr Nalin Rai. To provide the practical knowledge to trainees visits to progressive farm and university farm were arranged.
Ms Rita Rani, a participant of this training programme thanked the university and organizers for such a meticulously organized training. It is worth mentioning that GADVASU is charging no fee from the women trainees’ parcipating in any training programme of the university.
