Dr. Charan Kamal Singh, an established rabies expert from Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University has bagged “SAVITHREE JIBACHCH SINHA BEST POSTER PRESENTATION AWARD” at the national level during the annual conference of Indian Association of Veterinary Pathologists. This award has been for his poster presentation entitled “Ante-mortem detection of rabies antibodies: immunodiagnostic approach”. Dr Singh has rendered life time contribution in the field of rabies. The topic of his PhD thesis and five of his MVSc students and a PhD student has been research on different aspects of rabies disease. Earlier Dr Singh has been awarded “LIFE TIME EDUCATION ACHIEVEMENT AWARD 2007” by Health and Education Development Association; “SHIKSHA RATTAN PURASKAR” by India International Friendship Society; “BEST CITIZENS OF INDIA AWARD” by Best Citizen Publishing House; “GLORY OF INDIA GOLD MEDAL” by International Institute of Success Awareness; “BHARAT GAURAV AWARD” and “CERTIFICATE OF EXCELLENCE” by India International Friendship Society
It is his continued commitment to regularly work in the field of rabies that has provided the state of Punjab an authentic rabies research-cum-diagnostic laboratory in a continued research scheme submitted to Government of Punjab by Dr Singh way back in 1988 and since then Dr Singh is continuously working in this scheme to date. Dr Singh has accomplished various significant achievements in the field of rabies. As Principle Investigator of an ICAR research project, he developed first diagnostic kit for rabies in India. The text book he wrote is first on rabies by any Indian author. So far, Dr Singh has published 58 research articles mostly on rabies in national and inter-national journals of repute.
Dr Singh has also been duly acknowledged for his contributions in the field of rabies by national and international institutions. Dr Singh was nominated as advisor to World Health Organization wherein he visited the WHO headquarter at Geneva, Switzerland. Dr Singh was nominated Member, Task Force on Surveillance of Rabies by WHO. Dr Singh has been admitted as “ASSOCIATE” of Academy of Sciences for Animal Welfare.
Dr Singh has been nominated as Member, National Steering Committee for Coordination of the project “Rabies Free India” formed by Animal Welfare Board of India, Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India. Presently, working as Professor in Department of Veterinary Pathology, Dr Charan Kamal Singh is also working as Coordinator of Departmental Research Committees of various departments of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana.
