GADVASU envisages Vision 2020 to push blue and white revolution in state

December 31

Unveiling the roadmap for research activities to be undertaken by the university in the year ahead (2010) the Vice-chancellor of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) Dr V.K. Taneja today complimented varsity colleagues for pushing the university high on a positive slope in terms of progress and research work during the past year.

Extending New Year greetings to livestock community Dr Taneja said that university was in process of developing a vision document–Vision2020- that could serve as a “lighthouse” for veterinary research and extension activities in state. He said the document would be finalized soon and would deal with “everything and anything” required to give a push to white and blue revolution in state.

The Vice Chancellor said strengthening regional stations and starting farmer’s training programs would be another prioritised area. He said the university hoped to establish three KVK’s and one more regional station and a college of Veterinary Polytechnic at Kaljharani in year ahead. “Work on other buildings like College of Dairy Science and Technology, Farmer’s hostel, Scientist home, too has been proposed to be initiated this year”, said the VC.

He extended his heartful gratitude to university employees for making the outgoing year i.e. 2009 a “year of achievements”. He said he was reminded of some moments when last year on the New Year eve he was asked to announce how do he foresee coming year (2009) for varsity.   “The impromptu reply that I gave was: It will be the year when we would reap the benefits of collective hard work, commitment and professionalism put up by varsity colleagues, employees and students. And today, not only we succeeded  with handful of resources and  one College, but various projects and researches actually catapulted GADVASU into national fame”, said Dr Taneja.

Elaborated upon the all round achievements of the university in 2009 the VC said utilizing the available financial resources to its optimum the GADVASU added two new colleges, a department of Animal Biotechnology and two regional stations to its kitty. He said catapulting the varsity on national map while one of the crossbred cows at dairy farms created a national record with a yield of +12500 in 3rd lactation, the veterinary surgeon from university got into International limelight when GADVASU experts achieved a rare feat by successfully operating the 40 days old world’s first surviving buffalo clone born at National Dairy Research Institute (NDRI) in Karnal.

Talking on financial front Dr Taneja said that university was able to get reasonable financial grants to support our programs during the year . He said the expenditure had gone up from 39.3 crores in 2007-08 to 57.75 crores in 2008 –09 and the RS 50 Crore more were required on account of revised pay scales . “ Against this requirement, the present non-plan allocation is only Rs.25 crores. In addition, we need around Rs.100 crores for the essentially required new infrastructure facilities”, said he while adding that to meet this challenge university need to generate additional revnue resources.

The VC said that university had a large manpower in veterinary sciences which is young, well qualified, and competent and can do wonders. “ The only need is to provide effective support and leadership at all levels for better coordination and targeted output in a given time frame”, said he. He exhorted his colleagues to take every project or research concept to its logical conclusions to avoid any infiltration of incomplete information and lower output.
