The scientists from Department of Veterinary Public Health, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, won national awards at Symposium on "Transboundary Zoonotic Diseases: Challenges and Strategies" and VIII th Conference of Indian Association of Veterinary Public Health Specialists which was held at Gangtok, Sikkim for their research on food safety and environmental pollutants. Dr. Mudasir Ali Rather bagged prestigious "Young Scientist Award" for his outstanding research presentation entitled "Incidence, Molecular characterization and multidrug resistance in Bacillus cereus from diverse sources" authored by MA Rather, R S Aulakh, S Ghatak and JPS Gill. Dr Sital Kaji Shrestha was conferred with "Best poster Award" for his research paper on "Occurrence of organochlorine pesticide residues in sheep meat and meat products in Punjab" by SK Shrestha, RS Aulakh, JS Bedi and JPS Gill. Dr. JPS Gill and Dr. JK Sharma presented lead papers on zoonoses and chaired different scientific sessions in the symposium. Dr. JPS Gill, Head of Department informed that Veterinary Public Health scientists has also won Young Scientist and Best Poster awards during previous International conference of IAVPHS held at Pant Nagar in 2008 for significant contributions in field of zoonoses and food hygiene.
