The Centre for One Health at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University organized a one-day workshop titled ‘Addressing Emerging Zoonoses in India: A One Health Approach’ to strengthen the skills, resources, and ability of faculty members and researchers from the College of Veterinary Science, Ludhiana, College of Veterinary Science, Rampura Phul and Khalsa College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Amritsar on emerging zoonoses and One Health framework. The workshop was supported by the International Network for Government Science Advice (Asia Chapter).
While talking about this initiative Dr. J.P.S. Gill, Vice Chancellor reaffirmed the University’s commitment to the One Health approach, emphasizing its significance in addressing emerging public health threats, including zoonotic diseases. Dr. Gill stated that such interdisciplinary workshops provide a valuable platform for knowledge exchange and is expected to play a significant role in strengthening the One Health framework.
Dr. Anil Kumar Arora, Director of Research graced the workshop as the guest of honor. Dr. Arora outlined the University’s research initiatives aimed at strengthening the One Health framework and stressed the importance of capacity-building initiatives for ensuring the public health and safety of humans, animals, and the broader environment.
Dr. Jasbir Singh Bedi, Director of the Centre for One Health, delivered the opening remarks, emphasizing the Centre's crucial role in tackling zoonoses and public health challenges. Dr. Bedi highlighted the essential role of veterinary professionals within the One Health framework, which integrates human, animal, and environmental health. Dr. Pankaj Dhaka, organizing secretary of the workshop, discussed the historical context of zoonoses and their socio-economic impact on livestock keepers. Faculty members from the Centre delivered expert lectures and facilitated group activities, encouraging participants to collaborate on practical solutions for combating zoonoses.
