A national level Training course on “Advances in Anaesthesia, Surgery and Imaging in Farm and Companion Animals” was organized by the Department of Veterinary Surgery and Radiology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana. This 21 day training program was sponsored by ICAR and held under the aegis of Centre for Advanced Faculty Training (CAFT).
Dr Navdeep Singh, Director CAFT and HoD informed that 24 scientists and teachers from 9 states and 18 institutes joined the training. This training program was exhaustive and covered the aspects of surgery, anesthesia, minimally invasive techniques and diagnostic imaging in various species of animals like cattle, buffalo, horse, dog and cat. The department has advanced facilities like lens implantation for cataract in dogs, Colour Doppler, 3D/4D ultrasound, dentistry, endoscopy, laparoscopic surgery, orthopaedic surgery, colic surgery and anesthesia equipment. Dr. S.K. Mahajan and Dr Pallavi Verma, coordinators for this training course informed that over 60 lectures and practical demonstrations by experts from Punjab, Karnataka, Assam and West Bengal were arranged during the training programme.
Dr. S. K. Uppal, Dean Post Graduate Studies, was the chief guest at the inaugural function. He encouraged organizers to carry on the outstanding work being done in the fields of Anesthesia and Surgery. He said that this department is known for providing excellent services to the farmers and pet owners of Punjab. Dr J.P.S. Gill, Director of Research, was the chief guest at the valedictory ceremony. He lauded the excellent work in various fields of surgery due to which it could retain the top position in the country. Dr. Navdeep Singh informed that the department has conducted 32 training courses and over 470 surgeons/clinicians from various State Veterinary Universities/ State Agricultural Universities/ ICAR Institutes have been trained so far.
