Vet Varsity and PAU officials will establish Unit of Association of Microbiologists of India

The Association of Microbiologists of India (AMI) handed over the responsibility to establish 43rd Local unit as AMI Ludhiana to Prof. Yashpal Singh Malik, Dean, College of Animal Biotechnology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University as founder president and Dr GS Kocher, Principal Microbiologist-cum-Head, Department of Microbiology, Punjab Agricultural University to serve as the General Secretary. The central council of AMI approved this decision. Dr Malik informed that AMI is one of the oldest and reputed scientific organizations of the country, established in 1938. Since its inception, it has contributed significantly towards development of microbiology, particularly in areas of research and teaching in the country. The Association has more than 5152 life and annual members and about 450 corporate members. Looking at the growing concern of microbes globally.
Dr Keshani, Extension Scientist, Department of Microbiology, PAU has been nominated as Secretary, and Dr Harsh Panwar, Assistant Professor, a Dairy Microbiologist from Vet Varsity will look after the responsibilities of Treasurer. Dr Rachhpal Singh Kahlon, Prof. & Head (Retd.), and Dr Shammi Kapoor, Dean, College of Basic Sciences and Humanities, PAU; Dr Adarsh Mishra and Dr Satparkash Singh, Assistant Professors, College of Animal Biotechnology, Vet University have been designated as Executive member(s).
Dr. Malik highlighted that with the support of the Association of Microbiologists of India (AMI), the newly established Ludhiana unit is committed to actively contributing to the realization of AMI's vision and mission. This unit will take the initiative to host national and international events in alignment with AMI's objectives and aims, serving as a platform for promoting microbiology and its significance to various stakeholders, including students, researchers, farmers, and the general public. Dr. Satbir Singh Gosal, Vice-Chancellor of PAU, and Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Vet Varsity, expressed their appreciation for the faculty's proactive efforts in promoting scientific knowledge among the youth and for establishing a platform within one of the oldest Microbiology societies in the country. Professor RC Kuhad, the Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Haryana and the Chairman of the Academy of Microbiological Sciences, extended his congratulations to the AMI-Ludhiana Unit team.
