More than 50 volunteers of the National Service Scheme (NSS) attended week-long NSS Special Winter camp at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana.
Camp was aimed to train students in the green initiative and subsequently motivate society to develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility.
Volunteers from College of Fisheries, College of Veterinary Science, College of Dairy Science and Technology and College of Animal Biotechnology got hands-on training and exposure on skill development and saving the environment. The theme was 'Youth for Green Initiative and skill development in Punjab'.
Volunteers painted the tree trunks, took out the weeds from the gardens and also vowed to maintain GADVASU Nursery in future. A poster making competition was held on the theme of camp and a Campus Rally was also taken out to spread the message of channelising youth for a green and clean environment, informed Dr. Nidhi Sharma, NSS Programme Coordinator.
Dr. Y P S. Malik, Dean, College of Animal Biotechnology and Dr. R S Sethi, Dean, College of Dairy Science and Technology, both were the Guests of Honour. They motivated volunteers for a greener society.
Dr. Venus Bansal from Clio Hospital delivered a lecture on capacity building and demonstrated to act wisely during an emergency. Dr. Vikas Bansal and his team explained the basic concept of providing first aid using CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation), a technique to save people during heart attacks besides helping out the victims.
Dr. Satyavan Rampal, Director Students Welfare said that such camps are essential and are bound not only to save the environment but to evolve masses to work for this cause.
Dr. Sivakumar informed that the students also learnt and attended lectures about green initiatives involved in the food and dairy processing industry.
Dr. CS Mukhopadhyay and Dr. Sachin onkar Khairnar assisted in smooth conduct of the camp.
