National Conference on ‘Ecological Perspective’ concludes at Vet Varsity

Three days national conference on “Fisheries and Aquaculture : An Ecological perspective” organised by the Indian Ecological Society in collaboration with Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana concluded after fruitful scientific deliberation among the veteran experts, scientists, young professionals, students, farmers and the industry representatives. Dr. Meera D. Ansal, Dean College of Fisheries, GADVASU and conference organising secretary informed that for sustainable development of the fisheries sector, the keynote/lead speakers; and the participating delegates/scientists deliberated on ecological perspectives & eco-responsibility related to different aspects. They shared inputs on quality, climate smart technologies, diversification, intensification, conservation of aquatic resources, health management, exotics, antimicrobial resistance, one health concerns, food quality/safety, postharvest management, circular bio economy, public awareness, domestic consumption and capacity building of stakeholders with a strong inter-institutional linkages.
An interactive academia- farmer- industry session under the chairmanship of Dr Parkash Singh Brar, Director of Extension Education, addressed the key issues related to shrimp farming to resolve the recently witnessed marketing bottlenecks, in special reference to inland states.
Dr. Meera the organising secretary shared recommendations of the conference. During the valedictory function, best oral/poster presentations, travel grants and conference partners/sponsors/ co-sponsors were felicitated in the presence of conference Co-chairs Dr. Ashok Dhawan, President IES, Dr. Asha Dhawan, Former Dean (Retd.), COF GADVASU and Dr. Jatinder Paul Singh, Director of Research, GADVASU.
Conference Chair, Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor, GADVASU expressed that recommendations from the conference will certainly help in shaping the fisheries sector towards sustainability to cater human needs with due respect to environmental well-being and social welfare, to harness optimal economic benefits from aquatic resources.
