Vet Varsity observes Partition Horrors Remembrance Day

The Directorate of Students’ Welfare of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana observed ‘Partition Horrors Remembrance Day’ as per the guidelines received from University Grants Commission. The day was observed to showcase the sufferings of the partition affected people in accordance with the message floated by Sh. Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of India during his Independence Day Speech last year. The partition time was remembered by NSS volunteers, students, staff and faculty in the form of an exhibition of digital pictures followed by patriotic songs and National Anthem.

The digital exhibition was inaugurated by Dr. R.S. Sethi, Dean, College of Dairy Science and Technology, GADVASU. While addressing the audience, Dr. Sethi shared his father’s experience of migration from Pakistan in 1947 and emphasized not to forget the tragedy and agony of the partition, which claimed the lives of a large number of people. Dr. Satyavan Rampal, Director Students’ Welfare cum Estate Officer said that the day has been envisaged to apprise the young generation about the pain of millions of people and sufferers during partition.

Dr. Nidhi Sharma, Welfare Officer and NSS Programme Coordinator, informed that Taranpreet Singh from College of Fisheries presented a patriotic song reminding the people about the largest human displacement in the last century, followed by another nationalistic group song by students of College of Animal Biotechnology. The inaugural ceremony concluded with the National Anthem. The day was observed to showcase the sufferings of the partition affected people in accordance with the message floated by Sh.
