NSS wing of Vet Varsity holds Webinar on "Media Literacy and Debunking Yoga Myths"

A Webinar on ‘Media Literacy and Debunking Yoga Myths’ in continuation with the ongoing programmes to commemorate International Day of Yoga was organised by NSS wing of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University.

The webinar was organised to mark the approaching International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2022. More than 100 NSS volunteers from College of Dairy Science and Technology, College of Fisheries, College of Veterinary Science in Ludhiana, Amritsar and Bathinda participated in the Webinar. Dr. Pragya Kaushik, former Assistant Professor and now an Independent educator on soft skills, PR and media literacy, highlighted the difference between misinformation, disinformation and malinformation. She discussed the present scenario of emerging fake news on social and digital media. Dr. Kaushik discussed the role of individuals in identifying and stopping the spread of rumours and fake news.  While sharing the safety tips for digital media, she informed the volunteers about 'Reverse Image Search' on google to find out if the picture is photoshopped or original.

 Dr. Satyavan Rampal, Director Students' Welfare said, 'many people are falling prey to misleading news and information and this webinar was designed to identify and separate fake news from the media sphere specially related to yoga.

Dr. Nidhi Sharma, Welfare Officer and NSS Programme Coordinator delivered the vote of thanks while mentioning that the tools and knowledge gained would be very useful in combating against misinformation and debunking yoga myths like it belongs to one religion or one nation. Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi once asked NCC and NSS volunteers to defeat every system spreading misinformation and rumours on COVID vaccine.
