Vet Varsity Starts Short Course on Bioinformatics in Hybrid Mode

College of Animal Biotechnology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, launched the six-week short course on Bioinformatics in hybrid mode. In the launch session Dr. Yashpal Singh Malik, Course director and Dean of the College welcomed the Chief Guest, Dr. Sanjeev K Uppal, Dean Postgraduate Studies of varsity.

Dr.  Malik welcomed all the participants from different parts of India and revealed that the College started this certificate course, namely a 6-weeks distance learning course on Bioinformatics (the present one) and an upcoming Diploma in Animal Biotechnology for postgraduate students".

Dr. Malik explained the objectives of the course. He said, "The short course on Bioinformatics will last for six weeks from May 17 to June 27, 2022, of which, for five week classes will be online and the final week will be in physical mode that will include assignment, problem-solving, hands-on-training and examinations. The course aims are to develop skills in bio-computational analysis and the core concept of bioinformatics, to train students for computer coding program languages, and development of critical thinking in solving the problems of molecular biology by bio-computational approach".

Dr. S. K. Uppal emphasized the usefulness of the short bioinformatics course as an initial step to getting the participants' feedback to develop long-term courses in bioinformatics. Dr. Uppal appreciated the efforts of the faculty and staff of the College in conceptualizing, organizing, and finally conducting the course. He said, "College of Biotechnology has a limited number of faculty and are engaged in teaching, research and extension activities. In spite of all these, conceptually such short courses and upcoming diploma courses are great initiatives and deserve appreciation."

Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor appreciated the efforts of the college faculty for taking lead in the frontier areas solving public health problems.

The course coordinator, Dr. C. S. Mukhopadhyay, proposed a vote of thanks.
