Vet Varsity develops Mobile App on Awareness on Antimicrobial Resistance

Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana (GADVASU) , launched the mobile app for the awareness on antimicrobial resistance in the presence of University officials Dr. J.P.S. Gill, Director Research, Dr. H.S. Banga, Registrar, Dr. S.K. Uppal, Dean PGS and the project team members. Dr. Singh elaborated that the need of awareness activities on such public health issues assisted with the technological tools can help to reach the masses with effective outcomes. The judicious use of antibiotics and proper stewardship in animal and human health sector is highly critical.

Dr. Singh congratulated Dr. A.K. Arora, Principal Investigator of the Project, Dr. Jasbir Singh Bedi, Director, Centre for One Health and the team members.

The App is developed under the ICAR Niche Area of Excellence Program on "Antibiotic Resistance: Animal-Human Interface". The App is having various awareness chapters on antimicrobial resistance which include basic information on the use of antibiotics, mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance, spread of antimicrobial resistance at human-animal-environment interface, information on the available diagnostics, various prevention and control strategies on antimicrobial resistance, including international and national regulations. Dr. A.K. Arora briefed about the research and extension activities carried out under project, information about the App and its usage for various stakeholders.  Dr. J.S. Bedi said that the Centre for One Health is timely organizing various awareness camps on antimicrobial resistance among researchers, academicians, veterinary doctors, farmers and school students. The mass awareness on this public health issue is very critical to prevent the next possible pandemic of antimicrobial resistance.

Dr. J.P.S. Gill appreciated the project team members and informed that this valuable handy information resource will help the academicians, field veterinarians, college and school students to gather more information on antimicrobial resistance.
