The World Antimicrobial Awareness (AMR) Week was organized by Centre for One Health, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and
Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana under the theme “Spread Awareness, Stop Resistance” proposed by WHO from 18th -24th Nov, 2021. The week-long event commenced with expert lectures from two distinguished guest speakers Dr. Pallab Ray and Dr. Manisha Biswal, Professors, Department of Medical Microbiology, PGIMER, Chandigarh. The speakers stressed upon the need to target human, animal and environmental sectors holistically and the importance of Infection control and prevention to tackle the emerging AMR challenge. The events were inaugurated by Dr. JPS Gill, Director Research, GADVASU, who emphasized that different sectors are responsible for AMR emergence and we should collaborate to tackle this issue under One Health umbrella. 
The organizing secretaries of this event Dr. Randhir Singh, Professor and Dr. Simranpreet Kaur, Associate Professor, Centre for One Health delivered an awareness talk to the medical stream students of Govt. Senior Secondary School, PAU, wherein the concept of AMR was introduced to the students, with emphasis on prudent use of antibiotics. Students were also demonstrated basic microbiological techniques employed for antibiotic sensitivity test. A quiz was organized where all the medical students enthusiastically participated and prizes were distributed among winners.
These events were followed by expert lecture from Dr. Neelam Taneja, Professor, Department of Medical Microbiology, PGIMER, Cha
ndigarh. She briefed about the global emergence of antibiotic resistance bacteria in humans, animals and environment which pose a big challenge in treatment of patients with invasive bacterial infections.
The weeklong event concluded with Quiz and E-Poster Competition wherein the post graduate students of GADVASU
participated and the winners were presented with certificates. Dr. J.S. Bedi Coordinator & Director COH, concluded the session with vote of thanks to the guest speakers and students. He thanked the Dean, College of Veterinary Science, Dr. SPS Ghuman for his guidance and support. Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU, appreciated the efforts of the team of Centre for One Health for organizing such events for awareness of college, school students as well as society.
