Training On Health And Feed Management Of Dairy Animals Starts At Vet Varsity

A four-day online training programme on “Health and Feed Management of Dairy Animals” started today at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana. It is being organized in collaboration with National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad. Scientific feeding of dairy animals is vital for their health as well as to exploit their production and reproduction potential. Imbalanced feed, and improper health management, hamper the profitability. Dr Shahaji Phand, Assistant Director (Allied Extension) from MANAGE formally welcomed all the dignitaries and participants.

In the inaugural address, Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, Director of Extension Education, GADVASU, Ludhiana highlighted the importance of the livestock sector in the economy especially when agriculture is facing stagnancy. Further he stressed upon the role of balanced feed in maintaining health and thereby productivity of the animals. A compendium of lectures was also released during this session.  This training will provide detailed insight on feeding of animals during different physiological stages, feeding of silage, mineral mixture, bypass fat and uromin lick. Common infectious diseases, Metabolic disorders, Mastitis, lameness in dairy animals, biosecurity and role of ethno-veterinary medicine in maintaining the health of dairy animals etc. will also be discussed. Dr PS Brar, and Dr Shahaji Phand, are the course directors. Dr Jaswinder Singh and Dr Arunbeer Singh are the coordinators. Participants from all over the country are attending this training.
