Witnessing the importance of this sector, in recent times the Government of India created a new Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying. The Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying (AH&D) and fisheries was bifurcated for creation of a new Department of Fisheries besides Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying. While informing this Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana revealed that the government of India is pumping huge investment in different sectors of dairy, animal husbandry and fisheries. Last year Rs 15,000 crore fund was approved by the union cabinet as Animal Husbandry Infra Development Fund. This will create 35 lakhs more employment opportunities.
He informed that being the number one veterinary university of India according to ICAR ranking, GADVASU is catering to a large number of students. After getting education from this top university of the country, Veterinary, Fisheries or Dairy graduates can serve at different pockets of government or private organizations or even opt for profitable private practice/entrepreneurship.
There is tremendous scope for a veterinarian to serve abroad. The North American Veterinary Licensing Examination (NAVLE) is a requirement for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in all licensing jurisdictions in the US and Canada. GADVASU is imparting one month training for making students succeed in this examination. GADVASU is also in procedure to tie up with a USA based multi-location veterinary hospital firm who will train/help our graduates to clear examinations of NAVLE and also support for their Visa needs and employment.
He emphasized that all the courses of GADVASU whether in veterinary, fisheries or dairy sector have great potential for employment.
