College of Veterinary Science, Rampura Phul celebrated World Milk Day-2021 on June 1, 2021 by organizing an Awareness Camp on Hygienic and Wholesome Milk Production for progressive dairy farmers. Keeping in view the rising incidences of adulteration in milk samples, awareness regarding clean milk production is need of the hour. Farmers were sensitized about hygienic milk production protocol and associated socio-economic benefits. Farmers were apprised about gradual shift in pricing of milk based on qualitative parameters as adopted by some of the elite dairy enterprises. Dr. Manish Kumar Chatli, Dean, COVS, Rampura Phul emphasized on processing of milk for value addition to inculcate entrepreneurship skills and avoid economic losses due to spoilage of milk or low prices. He further stressed to make continuous liaison with the college to get benefitted from the various facilities available at their doorstep. Dr Yashwant Singh (Professor and Head, LPM and Coordinator) discussed about background of World Milk Day celebration and various benefits associated with hygienic milk production. Dr Sandeep Kaswan (Assistant Professor, LPM and Coordinator) informed that rising awareness among consumers demands production of hygienic milk with superior quality indices such as lower somatic cell count, standard plate count etc. Dr Gagandeep Singh (Assistant Professor, VCC) also coordinated the event and conducted tests on milk samples. All standard COVID-19 guidelines were followed to organize the event at Skill Development Center of the college. Dairy farmers were very enthusiastic and assured more concerted efforts towards cleaner milk production at their homes and adoption of milk value addition practices.
Dr Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor, GADVASU congratulated the staff of Veterinary College, Rampura Phul for organizing this event in such a short span after its inception. He assured all kind of necessary support for organizing such events in future as well.
