Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana alongwith officers of Varsity released an ‘Awareness Guide on Antimicrobial Resistance’ under the aegis of ICAR Niche Area of Excellence project on Antibiotic Resistance Animal Human Interface. Antimicrobial resistance threatens both human and animal health and the circulation of antimicrobial resistant pathogens does not respect the boundaries among human, animals and environment.
It was released in the 50th meeting of Board of Management of GADVASU. Dr Singh emphasised that the guide will be a much needed learning resource for field veterinarians and students and sensitize them to the rising scourge of antimicrobial resistance. Dr. Singh congratulates the Centre for One Health and Department of Microbiology for compilation of this awareness guide.
Dr. AK Arora, Principal Investigator and Controller of Examination, GADVASU explained that this learning source on Antimicrobial Resistance will help to understand the basics of antimicrobial resistance as well as various factors responsible for it along with associated mechanisms. The guide presents in a nutshell the information on the WHO priority list of antibiotics, the national and global guidelines on antimicrobial use and measures to tackle the resistance in veterinary sector. Dr JS Bedi, Director of Centre for One Health explained that the research team of the Centre is actively engaged through participatory epidemiological tools in raising awareness among the various stakeholders including veterinarians, farmers, para-vets, research scholars and students through field camps, focus group discussions and research oriented workshops. Dr. H.S. Banga, Registrar and Dr. J.P.S. Gill, Director of Research applauded the team work and highlighted that the awareness guide will be a useful tool to strengthen the knowledge of field veterinarians to curtail the problem of AMR.
