Department of Animal Nutrition, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana organized entrepreneurship training on preparation of mineral mixture for dairy animals. It was sponsored by ICAR under Strengthening and development of agricultural education in India under component-scheduled caste sub plan. Ten farmers took part in this training course. Dr. Udeybir Singh, HOD, Animal Nutrition welcomed the farmers and discussed about the importance of minerals for dairy animals. He revealed that minerals are the major components of the skeletal structure. Supplementation of mineral mixture improves feed digestibility, increases resistance to diseases and strengthens bones and teeth. Deficiency of minerals can adversely affect the production of the animals. Dr. Jasmine Kaur, course coordinator, apprised the participants of various entrepreneurship opportunities through preparation of mineral mixture and gave demonstration on preparation of mineral mixture. Dr. Sandeep Uniyal, course coordinator, provided hands on experience on preparation of uromin lick. Mr. Rishikant, Manager, Bank of Baroda discussed about the various loan facilities available for dairy farmers from bank. Feed supplements of GADVASU like mineral mixture, uromin lick, bypass fat along with nutrition calendar, DVD and medicinal plant kits were distributed free of cost among the trainee farmers. The participants thanked faculty for conducting an informative and interactive training programme.
