Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh, Tarn Taran of organised a one-week Vocational Training Programme on “Scientific Pig farming” in collaboration with Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) government of Punjab. A total number of 25 farmers from different villages of the district Tarn Taran attended this training programme. Dr. Balwinder Kumar, Associate Director (Training), KVK, Booh, welcomed the farmers in this programme and highlighted the importance of pig farming for resource poor people in rural areas. He also talked about the different activities of Kendra for socio economic upliftment of the farm community. Dr. Suresh Kumar, Assistant Professor, Course Coordinator discussed with trainees about the breeds and feeding management of pigs . He, further, demonstrated the scientific techniques of pig rearing through different models. Sh. Vikram Sood, Project Director, ATMA discussed about the different schemes related to pig farming by Punjab government. Dr. Anil Kumar, Assistant Professor, Soil Science informed about the marketing of pigs, he also enlightened the trainees about the soil health and animal production. Dr. Piverjeet Kaur Dhillon, Assistant Professor, Home Science explained the nutritive value of pig meat. She also apprised about waste products and their management . Dr. Subhash Chandra, Assistant Professor, Livestock Production Management elaborated about the lay out plans for pig farming. Dr. Sikh Tejinder Singh, Professor, Veterinary Medicine guided the farmers about importance of vaccination in pigs and he also made the trainees aware regarding different types of diseases and their possible treatments. Dr. A. K. Singh, Associate Professor, Veterinary Gynecology delivered lecture about reproductive management and artificial insemination in pigs. Dr. Suresh Kumar imparted awareness regarding economic evaluation of pig farming by demonstrating the procedure involved in record keeping. While concluding Dr. Balwinder Kumar presented his sincere thanks to experts and all the participants for sparing their valuable time to make this training a great success
