Department of Livestock Production Management, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana organized two training programs for farmers on “Scientific Goat farming as a source of income for rural farmers” and “Rural upliftment through scientific Poultry farming”. The trainings were conducted and co-ordinated by Dr. Daljeet Kaur, Dr. Mandeep Singla, Dr. Yashpal Singh and Dr. Subhash Chandra.
These were the offline programs organized by the department under SOP of Covid-19. The trainings were conducted under the aegis of Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) program operational in GADVASU with duration of four days (two days under each training). 25 Farmers from different villages, places actively participated in each of the training program. Six women
also participated in programme on goat farming. The trainees were apprised on various aspects of goat farming under stall-fed conditions. Theory and practical lectures on goat breeds, breeding, feeding management, housing, disease prevention, processing and value addition of farm products, economics and various routine management practices were delivered. Hands-on -training was imparted on various aspects of Poultry farming with the motive to polish the skills of farmers. Experts delivered lectures with practical tips on basic principles of housing and construction of sheds, brooding management, Feeding practices, Health & Biosecurity and along with value addition of meat and eggs and further marketing of poultry products.
Dr. Parkash Singh Brar, Director Extension Education appreciated the organizing team and emphasized that university is always ready to serve the farmers through conduct of various extension activities. The events were successfully completed with distribution of poultry and goat supplements and extension materials like books on “Murgi Palana” and “Punjab Vich Bakri Palan” to strengthen the farming skills at farmers' level. The trainees appreciated the efforts of the university for the welfare of livestock as well as the farmers.
