Vet Varsity pacts with BCL industries for livestock feed

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana and BCL Industries Limited, Bathinda, Punjab, signed a Memorandum of understanding to study the utilisation of Dried distillery grains with solubles (DDGS) as livestock feed. On the behalf of GADVASU, Dr J.P.S.Gill, Director of Research and on the behalf of BCL Industries Ltd., Mr. Kushal Mittal, Joint Managing Director signed the MOU in the presence of Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice Chancellor, GADVASU. Dr. Inderjeet Singh congratulated the faculty of the Animal Nutrition department and JMD of BCL industries for this academia-industry venture which will be beneficial for both and the outcome will help in raising the income, not only of Punjab livestock farmers but for whole of the country.

Director of Research, informed that university is regularly working for the upliftment of the farmers' income and assured the outcome of this research will help to reduce the cost of production in rearing various livestocks. Mr. Mittal told that we are one of the largest vertically integrated edible oil company in North India and one of the largest suppliers of grain based ethanol in India. During the process of manufacturing lot of waste is generated which is being dried. Dr Udeybir Singh, Head Department of Animal Nutrition informed that this DDGS is an excellent source of rumen undegradable protein and has highly digestible fibre along with low concentration of starch which can reduce the occurrence of acidosis that may go together with a feeding program targeted at high-producing dairy cows.

Dr A.P.S.Sethi, Principle Scientist of the department explained that this product contains a fairly high concentration of fat, making it a high-energy feedstuff for livestock and poultry. He explained that feeding trials will be conducted in buffaloes and poultry to assess the nutritional worth of the product. Dr. H. S. Banga, Registrar, Dr. P.S. Brar, Director Extension Education, Dr. S.K. Uppal, Dean Post Graduate Studies, Dr Amarjit Singh, Comptroller and Dr. S. Rampal, Director Students welfare were also present on this occasion.
