Vet Varsity organizes training on advances in mammary tumor diagnosis and treatment

College of Animal Biotechnology, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana organized

three days training course on ‘Advances in mammary tumor diagnosis and treatment’. The training was a part of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, sponsored Canine Research Centre and Networks program. Dr Yashpal Singh Malik, Dean, College of Animal Biotechnology, and the Chairperson of the training elaborated about this training’s aim to strengthen human resource in the field of biotechnological advances in the diagnosis and treatment of canine mammary tumors. Leads are being taken from mammary tumors in mice to develop anti-tumor vaccines against mammary tumors.

Dr J.P.S Gill, Director of Research, who is coordinator of the DBT-CRCN program at GADVASU informed about the research projects being run at GADVASU under this program and thanked DBT for sponsoring the network project at GADVASU.
In the training program, eminent subject specialists from different national institutes like Dr Meena Kataria, Dr. Swapan Kumar Maiti and Dr. Sonal Saxena from Izatnagar, Dr Aswani Kumar from Gannavaram, Dr Padmanath Krishnan from Chennai; Dr Madhuri Singh from New Zealand; Dr Bhaskar Ganguly from Ayurvet, Baddi; Dr Ashwani Kumar and Dr. Kuldip Gupta from GADVASU, Dr. M. Aditya Ram from Visakhapatnam and Dr. Priya K. Gopal from Kolkata, delivered their expert lectures to about 90 trainees from 20 states of India. Trainees from 14 state agricultural universities, central and national institutes  were apprised about the different aspects of tumors of dogs and human beings, their diagnosis and treatment.

Dr. B.V. Sunil Kumar, the organizing secretary and Principal Investigator of the research project, emphasized on the practical aspects of canine mammary tumor diagnosis and the role of various heat shock proteins in tumor progression.

Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor congratulated the organizing team from the College of Animal Biotechnology and DBT-CRCN program. He emphasized that capacity building in diagnosis and treatment of neoplasia in pets using advanced state-of-art methods is need of the hour.
