Fisheries Day’ (WFD) virtually in collaboration with the IDP Cell, GADVASU under ICAR- National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP). The WFD is celebrated every year to spotlight role of fisheries in food and nutritional security, besides offering livelihood and employment to over 500 million people across the world. In the introductory remarks, Dr. Meera D. Ansal, Dean, COF highlighted that WFD is commemorated to understand the responsibility to conserve the aquatic resources for the future generation through sustainable ecosystem approaches.
Inviting entries from fisheries students, a national level “Video Documentary Competition” on the theme “Entrepreneurship Opportunities in Fisheries” was organized on the occasion and 25 video entries were received from 7 states, while total 232 participants from 12 states attended the event. Panel of experts adjudged the video entries on the basis of selected benchmarks and winning entries were screened during the event for the audience.
The first prize was awarded to Bamaniaya Pinak Kamaleabhai from COF, Junagarh Agricultural University, Veraval, Gujrat, who highlighted potential of sea shells and seaweeds in entrepreneurship development. While the 2nd prize awardee Amaanat Kaur of COF, GADVASU featured economical benefits of fish farming through an impressive live interview with the farmer at his farm site. The 3rd prize was shared by Manpreet Singh, COF, GADVASU and Krishnakant Choudhari, COF, Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary Science University, Jabalpur, Madya Pradesh for showcasing various entrepreneurship opportunities in fisheries.
The chief guest Dr. Asha Dhawan, former Dean, COF, GADVASU emphasized that students shall explore the fisheries sector for innovative entrepreneurial ventures to become job providers rather than job seekers. The chief patron, Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Vice-Chancellor and Patron, Dr. S.P.S Ghuman, PI-IDP Cell and Dean, College of Veterinary Science, GADVASU congratulated the winners for their pioneering vision towards entrepreneurship. Scientific team comprising Dr. Shanthanagouda A.H, Dr. Jitendra Kumar and Dr. Rajinder Kaur organized the virtual celebration and the event ended with the concluding remarks and vote of thanks by Dr. Vaneet Inder Kaur, Head, Department of Aquatic Environment (COF).
