Vet Varsity appoints new officers of the Institute

Board of Management, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana (GADVASU) in its 48th meeting gave nod to appoint different officers of the university. Board of Management has appointed Dr. JPS Gill as Director of Research, Dr. Parkash Singh Brar as Director of Extension Education, Dr. Satyavan Rampal as Director Student’s Welfare cum Estate Officer and Dr. H S Banga as Registrar of the university.

Dr. JPS Gill, appointed as Director Research for second term is a renowned academician and a leading researcher for the last 30 yrs. and having 11yrs. administrative experience. He is also the Adjunct Professor at University of Saskatchewan (Canada). Dr. Gill has vast research experience of managing 38 research projects as Principal Investigator (PI) & Co-PI and has successfully developed nine International Collaborations and Research Proposals. Dr. Gill is FAO Nominated Expert for Joint FAO/WHO Expert Meetings on Foodborne Antimicrobial resistance. He is member to High Powered Committee of CM Punjab to Develop Road Map to boost the Dairy Sector in State. Dr. Gill also worked as expert member to develop Farmer Policy for Sustainable Growth of Livestock Production and Policy for Doubling Farmers Income By 2022 in livestock sector, He is member of four scientific panels of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India.

Dr Parkash Singh Brar, presently working as Dean, College of Veterinary Science has been earlier served the university as Director Livestock Farms and now will serve as Director of Extension Education. He won India’s first ever twin project in collaboration with University of Calgary in Veterinary Education funded by World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) apart from 23 other research projects funded by national and international agencies. As coordinator of Institution Development Plan funded by World Bank and Govt. of India to the tune of Rs 25 crore, he put in place plans to inculcate entrepreneurship skills in the students and improve competence of teachers. A widely travelled person is well aware about dairy systems worldwide. His priority area remains to work in close collaboration with line departments to deliver technologies developed by the University to farmers and equip Veterinarians, Dairy Technologist and Fisheries Professionals with better skills.

Dr. Satyavan Rampal was appointed as Director Students' Welfare and Estate Officer for second term. In his first term as DSW cum EO his name was established as Green Man of GADVASU by establishing Solar Panel System for renewable energy and extensive plantation. New buildings of College of Dairy Science and Technology, College of Animal Biotechnology, School of Public Health and Girls Hostel were constructed in his ongoing term. He introduced medical insurance for students. He strengthened engineering unit for construction of various buildings at GADVASU Campus. He also uplifted sports facilities in various hostels for the overall development of the students. Dr. Rampal has several national and international publications to his credit. He has successfully completed many research projects as PI and Co-PI. He has also served the university as State Public Information Officer.

Dr. Harmanjit Singh Banga, an eminent Veterinary Pathologist has appointed as Registrar. He was earlier Professor-cum-Head, Veterinary Pathology, University Librarian and was currently, the Dean, College of Veterinary Science, Rampura Phul (Bathinda). He is the founder Director of Centre of Advanced Faculty Training (CAFT) as it was during his tenure as Head, that the department bagged this coveted Centre. Dr. Banga is the recipient of Prestigious Canadian Commonwealth Scholarship for pursuing his PhD at University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada. Recipient of Dr. A S Atwal Gold Medal, Jawaharlal Nehru Trust Award, besides many best paper awards etc. He also developed an e-Learning teaching portal “E-Harnirdesh” online making GADVASU the first veterinary university in the country to implement Learning Management System. He developed Digital Research Repository of GADVASU and several educational YouTube videos.
