ICAR-ATARI, Zone-1, PAU, Ludhiana has received the prestigious Nanaji Deshmukh ICAR Award for Outstanding Interdisciplinary Team Research in Agricultural and Allied Sciences-2019 for the management of crop residues in Punjab. This prestigious award carries an amount of Rs. 5.0 Lakh and a citation. Agriculture & Farmers Welfare Minister Sh. Narendra Singh Tomar was the Chief Guest of the occasion. The award was given through video conferencing by Sh. Tomar,Sh. Parshottam Rupala and Sh. Kailash Choudhary, Ministers of State for Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Dr. Trilochan Mohapatra (DG), ICAR on the occasion of 92nd Foundation Day of ICAR (16 July, 2020) to recognize and incentivize excellent efforts for ensuring positive change towards sustainability and clean environment. Dr. Rajbir Singh, Director, ICAR-ATARI Zone-1, Ludhiana was team leader and Programme Coordinators of different KVKs were associated as team members. Among the different KVKs from Punjab, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Tarn Taran was one of the associated team member from Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University for this award. It is pertinent to mention here that KVK Tarn Taran has done exemplary work in management of crop residue in the district Tarn Taran. KVK Tarn Taran has made six villages i.e. Booh Havelian, Jauneke, Sohawa, Burj Poohla, Dadehar Sahib and Thathian Khurd crop residue burning free. The work of farmers associated with KVK Tarn Taran regarding crop residue management was appreciated by Prime Minister of India Sh. Narendra Modi in "Mann Ki Baat" on 28th October, 2018 as well as by Chief Minister of Punjab Capt. Amarinder Singh on 14th September, 2019. Dr. Inderjeet Singh Vice Chancellor and Dr. H.K. Verma, Director Extension Education, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana congratulated the team KVK Tarn Taran for being an associated member for prestigious Nanaji Deshmukh ICAR Award.
