Environmental concerns showcased by students amidst COVID pandemic

College of Fisheries, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana organized a national e-Poster Competition on the occasion of ‘World Environment Day’ on “Time for Nature" and "Impact of COVID-19 on Nature” themes. Every year, World Environment Day is celebrated to create public awareness for restoring environmental health to make the earth more green and clean for the present and future generations to come. Owing to COVID-19 havoc created this year, online entries were invited from the students of state agricultural and veterinary universities of the Country. 

 A stupendous response with 82 entries was received from 46 Colleges of 17 states across India, reflecting unfeigned concerns of the young minds towards environmental issues, especially global warming, pollution and over exploitation of resources. The posters were screened by the event coordinators based on pre designed criteria, such as imposition of theme, clarity of ideas, color combination complimenting the themes and inclusion of an effective symbolic message. The screened posters were shortlisted at the University level by Dr. Meera D. Ansal ,Senior Scientist cum Head, Aquaculture, College of Fisheries, Dr. Vaneet Inder Kaur, Scientist, Aquaculture, College of Fisheries and Dr. Paramjit Kaur, Assistant Professor, Department of Veterinary Parasitology, College of Veterinary Sciences affirming to originality of ideas used in each poster. The shortlisted posters were finally judged by Dr. M. S. Toor one of the eminent fine art artist and former Professor of Punjab Agricultural University.

Posters of Pritam Singh, College of Veterinary Science, GADVASU, Ludhiana and Niharika Maurya, College of Fisheries, GADVASU, Ludhiana won 1st and 2nd position, respectively. while 3rd position was achieved by two entries by Ritisnata Nayak, College of Fisheries, Junagadh Agricultural University, Veraval, Gujarat and Astha Arya, College of Fisheries, Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar, Uttarakhand.  

Dr. Shanthanagouda, Dr. Rajinder Kaur and Dr. Jitendra Kumar of College of Fisheries coordinated the event. Admiring the prodigious efforts made by the all the students in reproducing their heartwarming ideas on the canvass, Dr. K.S, Sandhu Dean, College of Fisheries congratulated the winners. Impressing on the fact that environment gives back what it receives; he recommends enlightening the young minds with such events so as to provide a healing touch to the earth for a better future.
