honoured. Among them Bohar Singh son of Kartar Singh, a progressive farmer of Village Algo Khurd, (Tarn Taran), was honoured with Best Farmer Award for his outstanding work in cultivation of maize for silage making. The award was presented by Dr BS Dhillon Vice Chancellor PAU Ludhiana, Dr NS Malhi, VC Guru Kashi University, Talwandi Sabo and Dr Sujoy Rakshit, Director ICAR-IIMR, Ludhiana. Bohar Singh started his dairy farm in the year 1995 with one cow. Earlier, he has simple dairy farm with low production of milk. After getting in contact with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh, Tarn Taran 4 year ago, he started advanced practices in dairy farming as per recommendations of KVK as well as GADVASU, Ludhiana. mixture silage under the guidance of Dr Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director and Navjot Singh Brar Assistant Professor of KVK, Tarn Taran, to ensure round the year food availability for his farm animals. He is cultivating Basmati Rice - Rye Grass - Spring maize (for silage making) crop rotation to fulfil the green fodder requirements of his milch animals and currently he is making silage from 25 acres of maize. He also started using university’s mineral mixture, bypass fat and uromin lick to sustain the production of his dairy farm. He is also vaccinating his animals as per recommendations of university. Now, he is having 85 HF crossbreed dairy animals among which more than 30 cows are producing more than 40 litres of milk per day. Dr HK Verma Director Extension Education, GADVASU Ludhiana and Dr Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director congratulated Bohar Singh for his achievement.
