Sensitizing of School Students on Livestock farming a must-Expert

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana has earned good name for its research work and extension activities. Now, not only the farmers get certified in various vocational training programmes but GADVASU also fascinates schools as an ‘Educational tour’ place from different areas of Punjab. 35 students including 14 girl students of class 11th and 12th from Government Senior Secondary School Ghubaya (Fazilka) along with 4 teaching staff visited university. The motive of this educational tour was to raise the awareness among students about the education opportunity in the field of Livestock and importance of livestock as an entrepreneur.

Dr H K Verma, Director Extension Education interacted with the students and awared students about university structure, facilities available, its importance to the livestock farmers and significant contribution to the state and country. Students were informed about admission procedure and encouraged them to join university for their bright future. Dr. Verma said that sensitization of the school students will make them understand the livestock its importance and significance in the society and farmers for becoming future entrepreneurs with the motto “Catch them Young”. Students visited ‘Farmer information’ centre where they learnt its contribution for dissipating the knowledge to the farmer and showed their interest in university literature. Further they visited Goat, Pig and Cattle/Buffalo farm where they learnt about housing and important livestock treasure of Punjab. They also visited College of Fisheries and learnt about different kinds of fishes. This was the sixth consecutive educational tour of school students from Punjab. A total 300 students including 20% girl students of higher and secondary education visited the university in last 2 months. Dr A S Nanda, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU appreciated the efforts of the Directorate of Extension Education for guiding and apprising the school students regarding Livestock, Poultry & Fisheries and its increasing importance in Punjab. This tour programme was coordinated by Dr. Kulvinder Singh to various departments and laboratories of the university. Teaching staff and students appreciated the University for arranging such an informative tour.
