June 28

Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, got ranked 201-300 in Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) 2019, released by Shanghai Ranking Consultancy Shanghai (China). Shanghai Ranking started to publish Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) by academic subjects since 2009. It is a fully independent organization dedicated to research on higher education intelligence and consultation. Dr. Sushil Prabhakar, Registrar of GADVASU informed that the rankings of universities were done in 54 subjects across Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Social Sciences. In total, More than 4000 universities were involved in ranking by ARWU and the best 500 were published.

The ranking was based broadly on two primary level indicators – Economics and Social Affairs, to rank the universities. Under these two primary indicators, seven criteria – Innovation; Research; Publications; Facilities; Teaching; Employability; and Social Responsibility, were used to measure each university’s strength and ranking criteria. Under Economic Indicators; Weightage was for Innovation (60%), Research (30%) and Publications (10%) and under Social Affairs Indicators; weightage was given to Facilities (15%) Teaching (30%) Employability (40%) and Social Responsibility (15%). GADVASU has performed excellently considering all these parameters. Under the field of Life Sciences and subjects of Veterinary Sciences, GADVASU is ranked between 201-300 positions among the top institutes of the world. This is the only state university in India to be in Global Ranking under, GRAS 2019

Vice-Chancellor Dr Amarjit Singh Nanda has dedicated this achievement and feat to all the faculty, staff and students of the university for their devotion in serving the institution as well as the farming community. He said that, in a short span of 13 years since 2006, when GADVASU came into existence, the Vet varsity had taken great strides at a swift pace to match the demand of the livestock sector. GADVASU with a faculty of around 230 teachers is running efficiently 95 research projects under national and international collaborations and also reaching to the farmers through strong extension network and five outreach centers. He congratulated all the stake holders and hoped that the university would continue to achieve greater heights in future too.
