National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development (NABAR,D) Punjab celebrated World Environment Day in collaboration with Guru Angad Dev Veterinary & Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) with the theme 
Air Pollution' on 6th June, 2019 involving various stakeholders such as Punjab Pollution Control Board, departments like Agriculture, Horticulture, Dairy Development, PAMETI, GADVASU, PAU, CIPHET, students and researchers. The focus of the programme was to draw attention towards the efforts for transforming habits, practices, standards to reduce Air Pollution and promote sustainable development for a cleaner environment and promotion of Green Economy. Dr. A. S. Nanda, Vice-Chancellor, GADVASU was the Chief Guest on this occasion. Dr. Nanda emphasized on the importance of day to day activities affecting related to environment such as use of Plastic Bottles, Polythene bags etc. and exhorted to minimize the use of such material contaminating the environment. Further Dr. Nanda said it's the individual responsibility to make clean India by beating air pollutions at their level. He stressed that students should make all efforts to conserve the environment. Dr. H. K. Verma , Director of Extension Education, GADVASU said that everyone should plant at least one tree during the upcoming monsoon season and explained the role of animals in day to day life and their increasing importance in the society. Sh. Baldev Singh, Chief Agriculture Officer, appreciated NABARD's efforts of crop residue management. He explained that burning of 
crop residue has adverse effects on environment and there is a need not to burn up residue. Dr. M. K. Narang, Agriculture Engineer, PAU explained use of farm machinery such as happy seeders to prevent burning of crop residue of paddy. Sh. Balwinder Singh Lakhewali, Deputy Director PAMETI explained biodiversity and need of saving environment. Er. G. S. Gill Punjab Pollution Control Board explained how to control the pollution. On this programme trees were also planted for reducing air pollution and the burden of pollution on homosapiens. On the spot poster making competition was also held and best three posters prepared by students were awarded. Sh. Parveen Bhatia, Assistant General Manager, NABARD informed that as per UNITED Nations “Humans are both creatures and moulders of their environment, which gives them physical sustenance and affords them the opportunity for intellectual, moral, social and spiritual growth. He informed that NABARD Punjab Regional Office, Chandigarh had launched campaign against paddy straw burning (crop residue management) in 320 villages of district Ludhiana. He thanked GADVASU and other departments for joining hands for celebrating this day.
