A conglomeration of scientists and students from Guru Angad Dev
Veterianry and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana and its outstations participated in 3rd National Conference of Society for Veterinary & Animal Husbandry Extension (SVAHE) organized at GB Pant university of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar (GBPUAT), Uttarakhand on the theme” Livestock Development for Societal Needs: Extension and Allied Sector Initiatives. Conference was attended by around 200 scientists from the country. Dr H K Verma, Director Extension Education presented the opening lead paper and took this platform to highlight what GADVASU is doing to uplift the livestock sector and farmers of Northern India through various means and methodologies. He further emphasized that 
it is now time to strengthen the livestock extension services from village to national level to bring the livestock revolution both in term of quantity and quality of livestock produce. This will ultimately fulfil the societal needs which in turn help the livestock sector and farmers growth. Dr Tej Partap, Vice Chancellor GBPUAT presided over the function and said that technologies in the field of livestock sector being generated should reach to the end users timely. For this efficient and quick extension mechanism should be introduced. Dr SK Kansal, Head, Department of Veterinary Extension was conferred with Life time achievement Award for the dedicated services to livestock farmers. Dr Parminder Singh, Dr RK Sharma,Dr Jaswinder Singh and Dr Yashwant Singh presented lead papers. Dr Balwinder Kumar, Deputy Director, KVK, Tarntaran, Dr Udeybir Singh, Dr Jaswinder Singh and Dr Rajesh Kasrija, from extension wing won prestigious award during the conference. GADVASU students also won best PhD and MVSc thesis award besides winning poster and oral presentation awards.
The inaugural issue of Society journal namely “Livestock Extension” was also 
released by the Chief Guest Dr VV Sadamata, Agricultural Extension Specialist & Former Advisor (Agriculture), Planning Commission, GoI. He said that the theme projected for discussion is very timely considering huge livestock population that provides considerable livelihood opportunities to various categories of farmers across resources endowed and disadvantaged ecologies. Gender mainstreaming, industry-academia interface, ICT applications, market led extension, value addition as well as attention to socio-cultural & economical aspects are required to be taken up on priority. Dr Verma further revealed that Livestock extension is at its infancy stage and livestock farmers are still adhered to age old practices of rearing. This society which has around 160 life members from all over India was formulated to highlight the farmers causes, constraints and to look after various measures through which farmers can earn a better livelihood.
