KVK Tarn Taran staff and associated farmers honored by district administration on 70th Republic Day

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Booh, Tarn Taran Deputy Director Dr. Balwinder Kumar and Mr. Nirmal Singh, supporting staff were honored by Deputy Commissioner, Tarn Taran for dedicated efforts for managing paddy straw residue in district Tarn Taran on 70th Republic Day 26-01-2019. Besides the Panchayat of two villages viz. Booh Havelian and Jauneke were also honored by district administration for not burning paddy straw and keeping their villages farm land totally burning free.  These two villages were adopted by KVK Tarn Taran under the project “Promotion on Agricultural Mechanization for In-situ management of crop residues,” for the year 2018-19 under Central Sector Scheme of Department of Agriculture Cooperation & Farmers Welfare, Government of India, New Delhi. KVK had conducted door to door campaign in these two villages, besides conducted trainings, Kisan Gosthi, farmer scientist interface and conducted demonstrations of happy seeder to provided complete solution for the crop residue management. KVK also provided free machinery/implements such as Happy Seeder, Mulcher, zero till drill, MB plough, cutter cum spreader in these villages for the management of rice residues for sowing of wheat, vegetables and other seasonal crops. Total land of these villages was 1600 acre which was made free of paddy straw burning. KVK adopted villages were among five villages in the district where zero burning was reported in year 2018. This becomes possible with the efforts of whole staff of KVK. Also progressive farmer S. Gurbachan Singh from village Burj Deva Singh was honored for efforts to manage rice residue. Deputy Commissioner Sh. Pardeep Kumar Sabharwal and Assistant Deputy Commissioner (G), Tarn Taran Sh. Sandeep Rishi congratulated KVK staff, Panchayat of villages and farmers for this award and making villages crop residue fire free. Dr. HK Verma, Director Extension Education, GADVASU, Ludhiana and Dr Rajbir Singh Brar, Director ICAR-ATARI Zone-1, PAU, Ludhiana congratulated KVK staff and farmers for this honour.
