Veterinary Medicine Faculty Brings Laurels at 37th National Conference

Faculty and Post graduate students of the Department of Veterinary Medicine, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and animal Sciences University participated in 37th Annual Convention of Indian Society for Veterinary Medicine & National Symposium National Symposium on “Holistic Approach in Veterinary Medicine for Better Animal Health to Meet Challenges of One Health Mission” held at College of Veterinary and Animal Science, RAJUVAS, Bikaner.

Dr. S.K. Uppal, Dean Post Graduate Studies, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences, was conferred with ISVM fellowship, 2019. Dr. Kirti Dua, Incharge Wildlife centre & Professor, Veterinary Medicine presented a lead lecture on wildlife diseases. Dr Asmita Narang, Assistant Professor won Intas Young Scientist Award 2019 for presenting her PhD research work entitled ‘Diagnostic and Therapeutic studies on lower respiratory tract diseases in cattle’. Her research work encompassed standardization of tracheo-bronchial wash technique in cattle for the diagnosis of lung diseases. She was earlier awarded ISVM Merit award in 2017 for PhD research planning during her PhD degree programme. Dr Gurpreet Singh Preet, a postgraduate student of the department, was conferred with ISVM appreciation award. Senior faculty members chaired the technical sessions. Faculty members and postgraduate students of the department presented papers in almost all the sessions and bagged seven oral and poster presentation awards. First Best poster presentation awards were given to ‘Pleuropneumonia in cattle’ by Asmita Narang, Charanjit Singh, Swaran Singh, Ashwani K. Sharma and Naresh Kumar Sood and ‘Investigations of myocardial injury in horses with colic’ by Priyanka Rani, RajSukhbir Singh, Swaran Singh and Kuldeep Gupta. Second Best Oral Presentation awards were given to ‘M-mode echocardiographic measurements and indices in healthy crossbred cattle’ by Shabnam Sidhu, S. K. Uppal, Neetu Saini and Sikh Tejinder Singh and ‘Diagnosis and therapeutic management of bacterial pleuropneumonia in a mare’ by Swaran Singh, Harnoor Kaur Dawra, Asmita Narang, Nitika Sharma, Shukriti Sharma and Naresh Kumar Sood. Third Best oral presentation awards were given to ‘A rare case of disseminated hydatidosis causing wasting in buffalo’ to Swaran Singh, Ishaan, Shukriti Sharma, Asmita Narang, Rajapartap and Kanchan and ‘A rare case of dilated cardiomyopathy in a crossbred cattle’ by Swaran Singh, Shabnam Sidhu, Neetu Saini, Asmita Narang and Shukriti Sharma whereas ‘Assessment of subcutaneous fat thickness by thoracic radiograph and its correlation with body condition score in dogs’ by Gurpreet Singh Preet, Sujata Turkar, J.Mohindroo, Neeraj Kashyap and S.K. Uppal was awarded as Third Best Poster Presentation.

President and General Secretary, Indian Society for Veterinary Medicine appreciated the newly elected Editorial board comprising Dr Swaran Singh, Dr. Shukriti Sharma and Dr. D K Gupta for bringing out the pending issues of the journal. Their efforts of designing and developing the ISVM website (www.isvm.org.in) were also appreciated.

Dean COVS and Dean PGS congratulated the Department of Veterinary Medicine for bringing glory to the department and university as a whole at National level.
