Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, (GADVASU) Ludhiana organized an eight days Model Training Course 'Embryo Transfer Training Programme' for Augmenting Propagation of Indigenous Dairy Cattle Germplasm. A total 13 Veterinary Officers and 2 Scientists from five states participated in the training program. The training was sponsored by Directorate of Extension Education (DOE), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India and organized by the Department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics under the patronage of Directorate of Extension Education, GADVASU.
Dr. H.K. Verma, Director of Extension Education, emphasised the need to use latest scientific techniques of embryo transfer technology for rapid germplasm improvement of dairy animals. He further envisaged the need to create a pool of skilled manpower to efficiently spread on the know-how at grower level. He conversed that the training was organised to impart knowledge of embryo transfer technology for propagation indigenous cattle germplasm having potential superiority over exotic and crossbred cows in terms of their ability to survive under harsh climate conditions.
Dr. N.S. Sharma, Controller of Examination stressed upon scientist/field functionaries and farmers interaction and emphasized the need to conserve and faster propagation of precious germplasm using reproductive biotechniques of multiple ovulation and embryo transfer (MOET). He said that the transfer of embryos to recipients (crossbred, non-descript or low potential cows/heifers of any breed) could facilitate the faster propagation of superior indigenous cattle germplasm. He encouraged the participants to motivate the farmers to adopt scientific practices for improving their dairy cattle.
Dr. Prahlad Singh, Director of programme informed that the trainees were apprised of various themes of course specifically the reproductive ultrasonography (USG), follicular development, evaluation and selection of donors and recipients and different oestrus synchronization protocols.
