KVK Mohali organizes Farmer Scientist interface

Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Mohali, of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana organised a Farmer-Scientist interface on crop residue management under a project on "Promotion of Agricultural Mechanization and Machinery for In- situ Management of Crop Residue" at adopted village Badanpur.  About 150 farmers were participated in this programme.  Dr Harish Kumar Verma, Director of Extension Education, GADVASU was the chief guest during the occasion. Dr. Yashwant Singh, Deputy Director (Training) of KVK welcomed Chief guest, all the officers and farmers and gave overview of status of crop residue burning in Punjab and emphasized on management of In-situ paddy straw management. Dr Harmeet Kaur Assistant Professor (Plant Protection) coordinated the stage. Dr. Priyanka Suryavanshi Assistant Professor (Agronomy) shared knowledge on Importance and use of Happy Seeder. Dr. Opinder Singh, Assistant Professor (Soil Science) of KVK Ropar talked about various techniques of paddy straw management and machinery. Dr Suryendra Singh, Assistant Professor (Agronomy) of KVK Barnala discussed about alternative uses of paddy straw. Dr Munish Sharma Assistant Professor (Horticulture) delivered lecture on techniques of paddy straw management in horticultural crops. Dr Shashipal told farmers about paddy straw as bedding material in livestock shed. Mr. Sucha Singh Agriculture Extension Officer briefed about various schemes of department of Agriculture related to paddy straw management. Progressive farmer S. Sewa Singh shared his experiences with the farmers. Dr Harish Kumar Verma motivated the farmers for not to burn crop residue and to manage it efficiently with the help of latest technology and machines developed by Punjab Agricultural University. He discussed about uses of crop residue in livestock farming. Live demonstration of machinery was arranged in the event and literature related to check residue burning was also distributed to the farmers. All the farmers assured that they will disseminate message of KVK for not to burn paddy straw to every farmer of district Mohali and will put their whole effort for residue management.
