GADVASU, motivates school children to adopt veterinary Science as Career on World Veterinary Day

World Veterinary day is celebrated on last Saturday of month of April every year since 2000. Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana celebrates it as per the theme given by world veterinary Association and World organization for Animal health which for the year 2018 was “Role of the veterinary profession in sustainable development to improve livelihood, food security and safety”. Accordingly to make youngsters aware about  veterinary sciences, the lectures were delivered in certain schools  such as Govt Sen. Sec. School Pamal, Govt Model Sen. Sec. School Punjab Agricultural University campus, Ludhiana, Shubkarman Public School, Haibowal kalan etc.  The lectures included admission process to graduate program of veterinary science, prevention of cruelty to animals, role of livestock in Indian economy, and increasing the income of farmers by increasing production of safe foods of animal origin.
Dr P S Brar, Dean College of Veterinary Science told that a brain storming will be held  to discuss how best veterinary services we can provide to farmers in the light of discussions done with Dr Susanne Munstermann, Expert from World Organization for Animal Health, who visited various departments of College of Veterinary Science last week and appreciated infrastructure of the college, role of university clinic especially as Referral Hospital, Animal Disease Research Centre for surveillance, monitoring  and forecasting of diseases. Dr A S Nanda Vice Chancellor added that celebrating World Veterinary Day is very important to let people know importance of this profession and that it should be respected and promoted like any other profession for upliftment of rural economy. Role of veterinarians is   not only  limited to relieving pain of animals but also help in keeping livestock healthy for better productivity, preventing transmission of diseases from animals to human beings.   The veterinary clinic of the university remained open whole day on the World Veterinary Day for the treatment of sick animals.
