The hostel inmates of NRI Girls’ Hostel celebrated Sports Day at Scientist Home in Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University with great zeal, excitement and frolicsome atmosphere with the theme ‘Active Mind in Active Body’. All students especially the participants showed great enthusiasm during the event. The programme began with a welcome note to the Chief Guest, Mrs. Kanwaljeet Kaur Nanda, wife of the Vice Chancellor, GADVASU and the Guests of Honour, Dr. Asha Dhawan, Ex Dean, College of Fisheries and Dr. Sucheta Sharma, Head, Department of Biochemistry, PAU.
Mrs. Kanwaljeet Kaur Nanda, in her key note address declared the Meet open and emphasised on the importance of sports in each student’s life. In her address, she also applauded the Warden, Mrs. Nidhi Sharma, for encouraging students to bring outstanding achievements not only in education but also in cultural and sports activities. The celebrations began with the Oath taking ceremony and the events filled the hearts of participants and onlookers with the spirit of sportsmanship and unity.
The Sports day saw participation of students in a wide array of field and indoor games
like Kho Kho, Volleyball, Carom Board and Chess and enthralled the spectators with their energetic performances. Tsharing, a student of 2nd year, College of Veterinary Science, won the Best Player award whereas Sandeep, a 1st year student of College of Dairy Science and Technology lifted the best player award in the Carom Board category. Team White won the Kho Kho game and the winning team included Muskaan, Nisha, Arshpreet, Sandeep, Pahul, Rajbir, Pallavi, Harjot and Harman. In Volley Ball, Team White won the game and the
winners were Simran, Jaideep, Sandeep, Pahul, Gulgul, Nisha and Gurleen. All the students cheered for the respective teams.
While addressing the players Dr. Satyavan Rampal, Director Students’ Welfare motivated students to become mentally, emotionally and physically strong as sports is the best way to attain this. He elaborated that by organizing such events at hostel level, students feel refreshed and rejuvenated. Mrs. Nidhi Sharma, Warden, NRI Girls Hostel and Scientist Home, thanked all the dignitaries and participants for their services.
